Purpose
-
Eligibility
- Lockers are a privilege, not a right, extended at the discretion of the College.
- Only students currently enrolled at 91制片厂 during the term of assignment are eligible to hold a locker.
- Students who withdraw, are dismissed, or otherwise lose active enrollment status during the term forfeit their locker assignment. Any remaining contents will be treated as abandoned property (see Section 8).
- Athletics and other programs with existing locker arrangements tied to facility use (e.g., practice or competition space) are addressed under their own operational agreements and are not governed by this general policy unless those programs opt in.
-
Assignment Procedures
- Lockers are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis through the office designated by the department overseeing the building in which the lockers are located (e.g., Student Life, a Dean鈥檚 office).
- Assignments are made on a semester basis and do not automatically renew.
- Each locker is assigned to one specific, named individual. The assigning office is responsible for maintaining the record of who holds each locker (see Tracking Form, below).
- One locker per student, campus-wide. A student may not hold multiple lockers across different buildings or offices simultaneously.
- Lockers are not transferable, shareable, or sub-leasable. A student may not give, lend, or trade their locker assignment to another student.
- At the time of assignment, the student must sign a Locker Use Agreement acknowledging:
- Students receive a College-issued lock at assignment. Personal locks are prohibited (see Section 5).
-
Acceptable Use
- Lockers may be used to store personal items related to a student鈥檚 coursework and campus activities (books, backpacks, athletic gear, coats, etc.).
- Students are expected to keep lockers reasonably clean and to report any maintenance issues (broken latch, damaged lock, etc.) to the assigning office promptly.
-
Prohibited Items
The following may not be stored in a College locker at any time:
- Food or perishable items of any kind
- Hazardous, flammable, or combustible materials
- Weapons or items prohibited under Board Policy or the Student Code of Conduct
- Illegal substances or drug paraphernalia
- Items that violate any other College or District policy
Prohibited items found during an inspection may be confiscated and referred to Student Conduct, Campus Safety, or law enforcement as appropriate.
-
College Ownership and Right to Inspect
- Lockers, and the locks issued with them, remain the property of 91制片厂 at all times. Cutting off WVC locks will be reported as vandalism and subject to Student Code of Conduct rules and regulations.
- Only College-issued locks may be used. Any personal or unauthorized lock discovered on a College locker will be cut off and removed without notice, and its contents handled as abandoned property.
- Authorized College officials may inspect lockers, with or without notice, for reasons including health and safety, maintenance, suspected policy violations, or compliance with this policy or the Student Code of Conduct.
- Inspections do not require the student鈥檚 presence or consent.
-
Student Responsibility and Liability
- Students are solely responsible for the contents of their assigned locker.
- The College assumes no responsibility or liability for items that are lost, stolen, or damaged while stored in a College locker, regardless of cause.
- Students are strongly encouraged not to store cash, electronics, or items of significant monetary or sentimental value in lockers.
-
End-of-Term Cleanout
- Students must remove all belongings from their assigned locker and return their College-issued lock to the office of assignment by the posted deadline each semester (typically prior to or during finals week 鈥 exact date to be published each term).
- Failure to return the lock or vacate the locker by the deadline may result in a replacement/administrative fee (see Section 10) and forfeiture of future locker eligibility.
-
Abandoned Property
- Any items remaining in a locker after the posted cleanout deadline, or left behind by a student who has lost eligibility mid-term (see Section 1), are considered abandoned.
- Abandoned items of apparent value will be booked for safe keeping and transferred to the campus Lost & Found in the Campus Police Department for a standard holding period (recommend 30 days) before disposal or donation, consistent with the College鈥檚 general Lost & Found practice.
- Perishable or hazardous abandoned items may be discarded immediately.
- The College assumes no liability for abandoned property once this process has been followed.
-
Revocation of Locker Privileges
Locker privileges may be revoked at any time for:
- Violation of this policy, including use of an unauthorized lock, storage of prohibited items, unauthorized transfer of a locker, or failure to vacate by the posted deadline
- Loss of current enrollment status
- Conduct violations under the Student Code of Conduct
- Damage to the locker beyond normal wear
Revocation decisions may be made by the Dean, Director, or designee overseeing the building where the locker is located, in consultation with Student Conduct where applicable.
-
Fees and Replacement Costs
- A replacement fee applies for lost, damaged, or unreturned College-issued locks (amount to be set locally/by the District; recommend aligning with current lock replacement cost).
- Damage to a locker beyond normal wear may result in a repair charge assessed to the responsible student.
- Unpaid (locker violation) fees may result in a hold on future locker eligibility and are subject to standard College fee-collection processes.
